Ground round is a type of ground beef. But you can’t call ground beef “ground round” unless the meat comes from the actual rounds of the cow.
Can I make a hamburger patty out of ground round?
We don’t recommend making burger patties out of ground round beef. Since it contains less fat, it may be somewhat dry when cooked as a patty. A good lean to fat ratio for burgers is 80/20.
What’s the ideal cooking temperature for ground round?
For medium to medium-rare doneness, set your cooking temperature to 140°F. Otherwise, you may cook the meat at 165°F.
How do I handle ground round?
Make sure that ground round is the last item you’ll buy on your shopping list. And before you put the meat in your cart, check to see that it has undamaged packaging.
